Noam Chomsky- Independent Media and Media's Invisible Powers

This week on Masterclass, our assigned segment was taught by the "father of modern linguistics" Noam Chomsky. Chomsky is an American Professor and one of the most brilliant minds of our time. The purpose of his course was to teach media consumers to cut through propaganda and opinions, while creating your own thoughts, ideas and interpretation without the influence or manipulation of outside factors. Noam Chomsky believes that new technology, like AI or Chat GPT, is a very useful tool but is destined to be used as an effective offensive strategy in political and government disputes. He also states that his generation has failed our new generation. He feels that the selfishness and greed of big companies has left the next generation with the task of trying to fix the climate problem. Sea levels and temperature rising is a problem that is now the new generations job to solve.
Chomsky believes that the media has a larger influence on us than we thought. He repeats that there is control that we cannot see. The media influences the news we hear not only by providing their own opinion, but also framing the events of the world in a light that agrees with their cause or means. He believes that it is the consumer's job to look past the outside influence and find your own true thoughts and opinions with logic, reasoning and research.
Chomsky remains one of the greatest minds of our time. He is currently 95 years old and still continues to stay involved with political activism and social criticism.
